Actress Catherine O'hara dies at 71
Catherine O'Hara was famous for starring roles in the series "Schitt's Creek" and the movie "Home Alone."
Canadian-born actress Catherine O'Hara has died at the age of 71, her management agency said on Friday.
O'Hara was an Emmy-winner who starred in the series "Schitt's Creek" and the movie "Home Alone." She also starred in the movie "Beetlejuice" and the Hollywood satire show "The Studio."
According to US entertainment news outlet Page Six, O'Hara was rushed to a hospital before dawn from her home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. The cause of death remains unknown.
'Canada has lost a legend', Prime Minister Mark Carney says
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has joined in paying tribute to Catherine O'Hara, who was born and raised in Canada.
"Over 5 decades of work, Catherine earned her place in the canon of Canadian comedy," he wrote, mentioning her role in Canadian TV show Schitt's Creek.
"Canada has lost a legend. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those who loved her work on screen. She will be dearly missed."
O'Hara first rose to widespread fame in 1988, starring as overdramatic artist and perfectionist Delia in "Beetlejuice" alongside Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder.
Her portrayal as mom Kate McCallister to a young Macaulay Culkin in the 1990 film "Home Alone" also revealed another side of O'Hara onscreen, as she warmed the hearts of audiences in a performance that provided a portrait of motherhood.
